Can I look away from the screen to work a quantitative problem on my whiteboard during the online test?

I write everything down when working through the math problems. Are the proctors understanding of looking away from the screen?
From those of you who have taken the gre online, are there any things I should be aware of or do to make sure that the proctor doesn't think I'm cheating. I've been reading a lot of stories and wanna make sure I don't do anything at all that could possibly jeopardize my test. Thank you!
