Looking to buy an auto gr86 cause it would just fit my drive a little better than manual (spouse who will drive also doesn’t know manual) what is this thing? Some of the used models are missing it and I don’t know if that’s a red flag.

If you want a manual, I would not compromise and get the auto. I did that years ago with a different car purchase and always regretted it. In my case, my partner didn’t agree with my car choice and I would up with a rather boring auto sedan.

For this purchase, my gr86, I refused to compromise since A) he drives a more practical, larger vehicle which can be used for family outings and B) he rarely, if ever, drives my car. The added bonus of your partner not knowing manual is you get to drive your own car exclusively! 👍

I used to have the same mentality with my partner too, that I cannot choose a manual because, in an emergency, he would not be able to drive my car. But guess what? In all the years we’ve been together, never once has the proverbial “emergency” ever occurred. When the whole family needs to be somewhere, we take our SUV. And, for short trips, the three of us can squeeze into my 86 with our 5’7” middle schooler tucked in the back seat. So, assuming you have at least one other practical car, it’s totally doable in my situation to still have a manual.
