So I have a 14 yr old autistic that loves Godzilla. While movie wise he really is only interested in the newest ones. He is near obsessive on facts about Godzilla going back to the original ('54) film.
While I've seen the new ones, and clips here and there of the old. (Switching channels as a kid) I decided to go back and watch the films in as close to order as I can. (based on availability to the streaming channels I have)
So far I have watched:
Godzilla (54): While a little dated, I found it fun to watch. Was absolutely worth the experience.
Godzilla Raids Again (55): Again a bit dated, but I loved the subplot of the pilots that worked for the cannery. Think I liked this one a tad more then the first.
Mothra Vs. Godzilla (64): Not only dated, but some campiness was mixed in. The little twins were odd, but was a fun movie.
Ghidrah the Three-Headed Monster (1964) : Granted I haven't actually finished this one yet. (Got late) The campiness was kinda taking over a bit. I'll finish and report back with more.
Edit.
I want to make it known, I understand the historical and cultural significance of the early Godzilla movies. My use of the word cheesy is in no way meant to undermine or devalue the aftermath of Hiroshima.
I incorrectly used the word cheesy as I would 'dated'. As it is the special and practical effects that I was referring to. I corrected this above.
