I'm trying to access an old Gmail account before inactive accounts are deleted in December. The account was last used around 2015. I do know the password, and have access to the recovery email that is attached to the Gmail, but unfortunately I no longer have access to the phone number that is tied to it.
When I tried to sign in with the correct password, the login screen prompts me to input the text verification code sent to the attached phone number. As I no longer have that number, I can't do so. I clicked the "try another way" button and Google said that they wouldn't be able to verify that I was the account owner unless I provide the code sent to the phone.
Is there a way to have the code sent to the recovery email instead of the phone? I did not see that as an option on the Gmail account recovery page. I also checked the recovery email that's attached to the Gmail account, and I did receive a message there about my earlier login attempt. There's seemingly no way to flag the login attempt as legitimate.
Am I totally out of luck without the phone number, even though I have the recovery email?
