Hello r/GMCCanyon I’m currently thinking about these two trucks the Denali Canyon and the AT4 Sierra. The Canyon is $13k less than the AT4 Sierra. Both trucks have their max options selected. The Sierra has the Baby Duramax.
Why’d did you opt for the Canyon over the Sierra?
I’m just conflicted because both trucks are admittedly expensive but the midsized truck being above $50k is hard:
I live in a metro area that floods substantially (Houston) so off roading capabilities are warranted about 15-20% of the time as it would also be needed when traversing property in the country. Both trucks have that handled.
I’m 6’4”, no kids yet but I would like them to fit sitting in the back seat when they’re 5-6 I’ll consider a bigger vehicle. Safety is obviously important. Clearly the Sierra wins here. However, I live in the city, so parking is a bitch for a full sized trucks, the Canyon obviously wins.
I’m a sucker for Tech so features like HUDs, Digital Rear View Mirror, adaptive cruise, and blind spot. Sierra being a little more upscale has more of these features.
I like freedom without compromising, which truck is faster but provides realistic MPGs. From what I’ve seen the Canyon despite having a smaller engine and size still gets the same MPG (19/23) of a 5.3L V8, the Duramax however provides 25/26ish mpg.
I commute 65 miles daily mostly highway but 1/4th in heavy stop-go traffic, so on road comfort is something to consider.
I think you need to buy a car. None of your options included that’s being used as a work truck so it doesn’t really matter which one you get. You talking about your kids being 5 or 6 but you don’t have any and you don’t know when if you will. And you talk about mpg, realistically the sticker will never be real mpg. That’s considering payloads, speed, traffic, etc. you will get around 14mpg in all reality. With all that being said. I think you should go with a car or a small suv not a truck
