Hello brothers and sisters in suffering. I'm considering a toupee fundoplication. I've met with a surgeon and he was very supportive of me waiting and trying to control my symptoms with lifestyle changes, but due to the severity of my acid reflux, he doubts the medicine will be able to control the reflux. My GI doctor referred me to a surgeon with just a Barium swallow and my reported symptoms. I have a small hiatal hernia, weak LES, motility disfunction, and some other things I don't even remember. The nurse at my GI called me the next day and basically told me your shit is fubar, and listed off all the stuff they saw.
I was literally fine just two months ago and this came out of nowhere. I've been eating rice and steamed veggies since this started. I basically stand up all day until I go to bed, so I'm very active. I'm on 40mg omeprazole 1x daily and I take gaviscon as needed. Things have improved a lot, but it's still very hard to do some basic things like clean my bathroom, sing, or wear a bra for long periods. I'm totally okay with toughing it out and eating a strict diet if it will bring me back to where I was just a few months ago. I guess my question is, is it too early to consider surgery? I've been seeing a lot of posts saying that doctors won't perform the surgery because they don't think it's warranted, when I was referred to surgeon almost immediately, has anyone else had a similar experience.
