Question about sucralfate

So I went to the emergency room the other day with feeling shortness of breath they did all the usual test in which the doctor told me it was gerd. They prescribed my famotidine twice a day and omeprazole in the am also sucralfate 4 times a day. Now my only symptoms is that shortness of breath, burping and dry mouth and sometimes a tiny bit of that sour taste in the back of my throat. My question is why would the doctor put me on sucralfate I thought sucralfate was to heal ulcers?
