Does preference order impact chances?

Hey everyone!
I sat the gamsat in May for the first time and hence this is also my first time applying for med via GEMSAS. After receiving my score (60) I know it’s not very competitive and I was wondering if changing the preference order does anything? For example I’ve got UniMelb currently as 1st preference and given it’s very unlikely that I won’t get an interview from there I was considering switching maybe Deakin or something as 1st.
Any advice is appreciated I’m super new to this all.
