I have a 2008 with the 5at. The torque converter went out. I pulled the trans and replaced the torque converter. I made sure the torque converter was seated properly the installed the transmission. The flywheel wouldnt turn. The transmission did get jarred a little on install because it slipped on the jack some. So I pulled it made sure the torque converter was seated properly reinstalled the transmission. This time the bell housing wouldn't completely mate with the engine. Pulled it again this time the torge converter stayed stuck to the flex plate and it was a real mofo to get the trans out under those conditions. Cleaned the "snout" on the front of the torque converter with emery cloth, to make sure any paint was removed, in case it was too thick and causing it to bind when going in to the hole in the center of the flex plate. Go to reinstall the trans and it still won't mate completely. I've pulled and reinstalled many transmissions over the years, I've never had suck problems. Granted that was always on American made cars and this is my first experience with this platform. What could be my problem here? Is it possible that the tolerances are so tight that even being 1° or 2° out of level with the engine could be causing these fitment issues? Is it possible napa sold me a torque converter for a 7at? Just looking with my bare eyes it appears to be the correct torque convert, of course now I've taken the original back for the core charge so I can't put my micrometer on it to determine exact specs to compare to the new one. Please help, I love my G and it's my only vehicle.
