US State of the Union - What is the Future of 'Good Middle Class Jobs'?

Post Body

As usual, the US State of the Union address was pretty heavily focused on the concept of jobs. It seems to be generally excepted in the US media and political circles that the source of most of the woe in the US is a lack of 'Good Middle Class Jobs', they seem to be thinking mostly about jobs in manufacturing when they say this.

It is also generally accepted in this subreddit that these are the types of jobs that will not exist in the relatively near future.

Where do you think the jobs debate in the US will lead us? Pitting the success of the middle class job market (also seen as the foundation of a stable society) against the forward movement of technology seems like a dangerous game to me. Do you think that the conversation itself will eventually evolve into something more aligned with reality, or do you think that technological advancement will become somehow synonymous with economic decay as it leads to unemployment?
