The tagline was always "Left wing policies will create a better future for your children",.

People went "What children?", shrugged and voted for what seemed funny at the time. When there's no investment in the future a lot of arguments fall away because even the ones who do believe in things such as environmentalism don't really believe they have anything to do with future outcomes.

There won't be a collapse things will just become iteratively worse while technology and entertainment extend the lifetime of the present system more and more.

Collapse implies the possibility of growth.

There is nowhere to grow and nothing to grow into.
