Post Body

One morning in Buckingham Palace, Queen Elizabeth is found sitting in a chair, covered in blood. A knife is in her hands and the corpse of a servant is found in the next room.

An investigation reveals undeniably that not only is Queen Elizabeth the murderer, she was also fully lucid and aware of the crime. This was a willful and deliberate act by the Queen.

What happens now? How does the world react?

Comments

The Regency Acts are the most likely outcome here, specifically the sections regarding infirmity and inability to discharge their Royal duties. It would require the full support of the next in line to execute but under the circumstances you describe I'm pretty sure it could be convincingly argued and accepted. At which point the Queen would be quietly moved out of the public eye and into the appropriate managed supervision and care to comfortably live out her remaining days. Given her lifetime of consistent service and this sudden change of character it would be hard not to make the infirmity argument, despite her apparent lucidity and awareness.
