If not , it's not a huge deal. All you really need to know is overwatch, hell atleast a passing familiarity is all that's needed. And if you don't, it's not a big deal you can just think of it as a colorful cast of characters. Now onto the actual concept of it. Academy34 is a free to play visual novel(not sponsored) about you, a new recruit In the overwatch Academy, and the cast of overwatch whether they are teachers or students. And their sexy stories they have with you. I highly recommend playing it, I genuinely think the writing is witty and fun and true to the characters while adding believable qwerks.
