How do they afford it?

I know with social media and television, families like Duggars/Bates would have made a lot of money from endorsements, tv shows etc…
But even before 19 kids and counting, Bringing up Bates, how on Earth did they afford raising so many kids?
And I guess the fundies who don’t want to be famous?
Is there like a church community within their community that helps each other out?
