Waaaay back before we called them Karen, and there were full service gas stations, I had a car pull up to the pumps. Inside were 2 ladies well into their 80’s. (Side note :The radial tire was slowly replacing the bias ply tire, and everyone was still getting used to the radials looking flat.) The two looked like the stereotype grand mother type and they were very polite. Told me they didn’t need anything, they were concerned that their “new” tires all looked too low, I explained about them being a new type of tire and were designed that way. But to be sure I would check them for her. I told them all the tires were properly inflated and they were fine. That wasn’t good enough, she said she was still worried they were flat, asked if I could check again, But of course I can, I even said I would use our “special” pressure, used only for new tire installs. Of course the readings were the same, as were her concerns😤 The owner had been watching this , covering his smirk with his hand, he steps in, tells the lady’s he would use his pressure gage he JUST bought that morning! Of course the tires were fine After 30 or so minutes of trying to help and educate this lady, my boss grabs the air hose and filled each tire with air until the sidewalls were straight up and down, about 60 to 70 lbs OVER the manufacturer recommended pressure. The ladies were happy, drove away never to be seen again…..
