How did you first come across Fruits Basket, whether it be that you started the anime first, or read the manga?
I think I was about 14, in 2006, and had gone on a usual weekend of shopping and walking around town with my friends. We visited Woolworths (which now doesn't exist here), and there was a single copy of a manga on a bottom shelf, which was a mish-mash of different genres of books.
It caught my eye (as I was just starting to become interested in manga) and it was really cheap - I think about Β£3 - so I thought, "why not?" π€·ββοΈ
Through the years, I've had the full Tokyo Pop collection, the boxset of the 2001 anime and various other bits of merchandise (notebooks, stickers, umbrella, cushion etc.) - only to grow up a bit and need the money and sell them!
Fast forward to 2021 and I've bought the entire collectors edition of the manga (and I'm never selling it again) and I'm now eagerly awaiting season 3 of the reboot anime. Merchandise is also starting to creep onto my Christmas list.
There is no escape! π
I started reading the manga in 2004 I believe. At that point I was collecting different series and came across furuba in my local Walden Books (turned to a Borders later). I saw it being advertised as the #1 series atm and decided to buy the first volume. And I was pretty much hooked. Iβd wait for the next volume to drop and buy it right away. I have the entire Tokyopop manga collection and the spin-off as well. Furuba has always been super near and dear to my heart so watching it make itβs comeback to newer generations has made me so happy!
