Should I buy a new printer, a used printer, or just stick to printing at a library?
Post Body

Hi guys.

I'm a student living off-campus, travelling to campus for work twice a week. Because of the things going on, I try to keep my activity outside my apartment to a minimum. I do have to print out lab reports and assignments to turn in on campus, but I'm a little wary of going to the school library multiple times a week so I've been thinking about investing in a printer.

However, I'm not sure if it's worth it. The cheapest new printer I can find is $50 with an extra $40 for ink. At my school library, I pay $0.10 per paper printed and $0.50 per color paper printed. My lab reports can be up to 20 pages long and are a weekly thing. These past two years, I've spent about $20 every school year on printing. I just want some advice for what would be better in the long run.

I've been looking on Craigslist for used printers and was able to find cheaper options that ranged from $20 - $30. With that, I could just buy that and the ink cartidges for it and save some money. But will it last? Most ones I find have been used for a couple years.

I just want some advice for if I should buy a brand new one, a used one, or not at all.

Thank you all for the wonderful advice! I honestly didn't know the difference between an inkjet and a laser printer and am now aware that inkjets are not such a hot investment. Also I've learned that Brother is a pretty good company to buy a printer from since people keep mentioning it.

I think I'm going to keep printing at the library for now just because the professor insists on having a physical copy of the reports (I know, lame) and save up until there's a good sale on a Brother laser printer. I'll just wipe down everything I use there before and after in the meantime.
