I'm trying to reduce my monthly Electricity costs while living in an Apartment / Should i flip the breaker before i leave daily?
Post Body

Hello Fellow Frugal Fellas!

As the title states: I'm trying to reduce my monthly Electricity costs while living in an Apartment and seeing i flip the breaker before i leave daily would this be an effective method to help me accomplish this?

While i have been attacking my spending habits in many sectors of my life, i feel there is one i that I think I could do better with, and that's my monthly Utilities cost!

I live Southern states of the US, my local power company uses Smart Meter that shows me how much power i consume in a monthly bill cycle.

Truthfully I'm more negligent than meticulous and I'm trying to do a clever, quick and easy yet effective way to try to help me tackle my Utility bill by at least a 50% reduction in cost/usage. (obv more is better.) I often leave in an hurry and leave the AC on, my computer on, and several of my Hue lights - and have quite a few tech devices plugged in. Desktop Setup, TV, Projector, Modem, Hue Lights, Kitchen Equipment, Artisitc Water Fountain..

Stats:

I live alone in an Apartment. 1 Bed, 1 Bath, 810 SQft

Analyze Usage: 31.72 kWh / day

Total Electric Cost: $107.47 $95.97 / Average Cost per kWh: $0.1059 / kWh

What are some of the best ways I should go about to lower this re-occurring cost? Home Automation system? Cutting the breaker before I leave for work? The reason I'm especially looking into the second one is: Its a 1 step solution, Its free to do, and I think it would be best to cut the consumption it from as close to the source as possible. The fridge would then become a large cooler from 8-5 - which is not one of my concerns really.

I feel that the power consumption, in theory, would be down nearly for 160 hours out of the month. When the breaker is flipped back on, i understand there is a power surge, would this negate having it off and the first place? That's hard to image it would be more consumption than all of these devices for 8 hours.

Insight, Advice, and Suggestions is much appreciated! Thanks!

Also, to those others with apartments, what do you pay for Utilities monthly?

Frugal FTW!
