Small tip for saving money if you have an inkjet printer: refill the cartridges instead of buying new ones.
HP cartridges cost about $1/milliliter. Refill ink is about 1/100th the price of original ink.
It involves some faffing around with needles and syringes, but allows you to print with an inkjet as cheaply as a laser.
If you're printing in black and white, it's probably still best to go with a cheap laser printer, but if you already have an inkjet and want to save money, refilling is worth a try.
