Was going to reply this to the person who watched Frozen 2 for the first time recently but wanted to share with all and hear some of your thoughts
I love Frozen 2 I just donāt like how the whole thing feels like an existential crisis to meā¦ they really shove the whole āyouāre growing upā or āgetting olderā thing down your throat š with the song āsome things never changeā it aims to be a sort of comfort that even though things change , some things never do , but the unsettling and ironic thing thatās done on purpose is that those things mentioned DO all change eventually.. then Olaf popping up front screen like āAnd you all look a little bit older šŗā like yeah we get it , the first one came out 6 years ago, haha , yes weāre older, then the whole song about āThis will all make sense when I am olderā , then kristoff trying to propose to Anna and giving her anxiety about the future and whether or not theyāll make it out of the forest alive and then he continues to say āwe will die one dayā etc , and so on , it just keeps going. I understand they want to be relatable and have realistic characters , and then thereās the parents watching who will have a good chuckle at all of that but I felt like it was just too much. Personally I like when a movie , especially a Disney movie or a fantasy movie of sorts to be a kind of escapism, not a reality check.. you know? The storyline of Elsa finding herself and Anna and everything else is fine , itās subtle and itās beautiful. It just felt so formulaic , like they had a whiteboard with the words āGetting olderā written on it and then created the story around that which made it feel inauthentic
