Bey Stefan Bogoridi was enjoying his time in the Sublime Porte. It was one of his regular visits to the imperial residence of the Sultan, and he bided his time in the Sultan’s library, reading the histories of the land. His understanding of Ottoman Turkish, though not perfect by any means, was more than enough to keep up with even some of the most difficult Ottoman historians, and as he read of the history of the conquest of Constantinople, his mind wandered…

Constantinople. The city of world’s desire. What a name for a city. Constantinople. To him, it was just “The City,” but to those who lived under Byzantine rule for a millenia, it was a constant reminder of Constantine – Constantine the Great. Stefan sighed. There was something that had to be done.

Calling upon one of the house slaves afforded to him in his position as Bey, he dictated a decree:

By the order of Bey Stefan Bogoridi, Prince of Samos and protector of the Samoans.

The city of Vathi, hereafter and unto ages of ages, shall be known by the name of Stefanopolis. His Beydom’s sacrifices for the Samoans has secured their freedom and their glory, and his gentle hand has protected them from retribution and hardship. Let them not forget that it was His Beydom that saved them from the Plague and drove back the Hordes of Mongol Tatars that threatened their shores during the war.

All signage will be altered to reflect this change.
