[MODPOST] Finalizing Starting Technologies

Post Body

I am in the process of finalizing how starting technologies will be assigned. This is a vital component of actually building the tech tree that everyone has heard so much about.

In order for me to be as comprehensive as humanly possible, I am going to ask all players to do me a favor by sending me a Modmail with two lists.

The first list I ask for is of any and all technologies that you believe MOST or ALL players should have had access to at the start of the game. Please keep in mind that the in-game time period is the rough equivalent of the year 400CE (or AD for you religious folk). Anything sent is a suggestion, many will be accepted, others will be consolidated and still others may be added to the tech tree. In short, just make a list of technologies that should already be in the game at large.

The second list that I ask is for you to make is of other technologies that should become available in the game that SHOULD NOT be started with by most or any civilizations.

As a note, feel free to try your hand at making up something and describing it to me, I might be able to turn that into a technology as well.

The reason that I'm handling these posts privately in modmail rather than publicly is because of the number of Hidden or Secret Technologies that several civilizations have developed. TL;DR: Please send modmails with technologies, it will help me grow this tech tree faster.

As a note, I do not actually expect all players to be starting the game with the exact same technologies. Rather, I expect multiple trade offs to have occurred to allow for early customization of the various civilizations.

E.g.: The People of Hisea gave up much of the Stonemason Tree to advance heavily in the Woodworking Tree. They also largely sacrificed the Naval and Husbandry Trees to pursue the Resource and Logistical Trees.

What will ultimately end up happening when Tech is fully rolled out is that each player will be messaged with a list of starting technologies that I determine from reading all of your in-game post history again. In the event that I'm not able to determine much from your history, I'll privately work with you to hammer out an appropriate starting list. In the event that a tech you have taken time to research ends up on your starting list, you will be given a bonus tech to make up for the inconvenience.

Before I forget, I do not want everyone suddenly posting about cantilevered terraces, block printing, capybara warsteeds, or anything else in an attempt to game the system for free starting technologies. For starters, it will be damn obvious to me. Secondly, I will only be looking at posts that come before this announcement to determine what is appropriate starting tech.

Progress is being made, I hope everyone is having fun.

Cheers!
