I am a very novice french speaker. My second grader is in a french immersion program at school. His last homework assignment asked him to read and answer some questions in french. The homework part was simple enough, but there was a part of the text that confused me.
Here is the story. It's about a ghost who makes a pie for a girl, who doesn't like it, because it turns out to be a potato pie. (Could be off on that, but that seems to be the gist of it.)
The line that confused me was "C'est pour toi, la chipie."
I wasn't sure what "la chipie" was. Google translate seems to indicate that the ghost is calling the girl a bitch. I checked with a french speaking Canadian friend of mine but he wasn't familiar with the term. Is there a more appropriate way to translate this?
