Appropriate use of futur proche
Post Body

I understand that French has two different ways of speaking of what will be: the futur proche and the future tense. The former being for the "immediate future" and the later for everything else. But how immediate is "immediate". In everyday French, how far into the future can we use the futur proche? In English, they seem fully interchangeable.

  • I will graduate in 2017.
  • I'm going to graduate in 2017.

Is there a rule of thumb as to when you would use one vs the other in Frech?
