DIY hobbyist here, never built a frame but want to make small modifications to one tell me what could go wrong.
Post Body

Hi, I basically want to recreate a Pop-cycle frame by cutting a drop-through frame in half and putting a trolley system in there using the down tube as a channel with a spring pin locking mechanism. Why, you ask, because I find fabrication a fun hobby; I've upcycled and modified bikes before, including custom e-bike conversions, but I've never directly modified a frame. I'm hoping that by having the seatpost and seatways rotate in as a separate unit - I could make a folding bike with a smaller form factor than the popcycles. Tell me:

  1. Reasons why this is a dumb idea
  2. What tips would you give if I still pursued it
  3. How you would go about it
