Staying Safe During the Annular Solar Eclipse this Saturday

This Saturday, October 14, an annular solar eclipse will be visible along a narrow path in parts of North and South America, whole most of the rest of the hemisphere will see a partial solar eclipse. Here in North Texas, we will see between 85% and 88% coverage of the sun, but not full annularity. The sun will look like a thin crescent through eclipse glasses.

Staying safe while observing and enjoying the event is important, because injuries to the eyes from looking at the sun can be permanent and debilitating.

The Fort Worth Astronomical Society will be doing a livestream of the eclipse on Saturday morning starting around 10am CDT, from the path of annularity in South Texas. While the full "Ring of Fire" will not be visible in North Texas, we will be be broadcasting it live.
