I've been reading Stephen King again. I wish I had some kind of chemical to put in my mind tonight. Where are all the fun and crazy people? Do fun and crazy people not use the internet anymore? Have they all died or been thrown in a dungeon of timid domesticated civility? Have they all been sold off to salaried sultans?
Granted, no one owes me anything. Surely, though, someone here has something they want to give me. I don't look gift horses in their mouths nor do I believe in coincidence. There's this great big hole in my mind shaped just like you. That's not a romantic thing. It's painful. I keep putting things there that don't belong. It hurts like hell. But it hurts more when it's open and weeping. It's more prone to infection when I leave it alone.
Have you ever had a root canal? It's something else. It's intimate and challenging. It's painful but ultimately rewarding. It's all the things a meaningful personal relationship should be.
"Open up wider," the dentist says.
I say the same thing to you. Open up. Let's take a look. Let's see what we can do about that infection.
