Rejection and assumption

I’ve accepted being FA but I’m also a FA who has never asked a woman out and probably never will. This is due my fear of rejection and assuming her answer will always be no. For those who are still hopeful and who were once hopeful: What made you get past that fear/assumption and to keep trying until you gave up?
