If you can afford them, 1999-2002 F250/350s with the 7.3 diesel are extremely reliable, theres a notable premium on those though. 6.8 V10s are also great, the 5.4s are pretty good unless you are towing.
The ZF manual transmissions are much more reliable than the E4OD and 4R100, but they are all solid, i think the 5R series transmissions are good too.
Never been a fan of the F150s, i nor any of my family or friends have had much luck with them.
Rangers are great trucks, but the 4.0 engines tend to have some problems. The 2.3, 2.5, and 3.0s are all great but a little slow
Avoid 6.0 and 6.4 powerstrokes like the plague, DO NOT EVER buy one
You also gotta keep in mind, half the guys that have trucks like this pay shops 3x what its worth to do.
Wait until you find out how much custom suspension that aint rough country shit costs.
