Well hello there, So I have an automatic 2010 Connect (Named Frank) and of course the trans is dying, odometers just under 200,000km, I'm honestly amazed its working at all, what with all the metal its been spitting out. So I start looking for a replacement and while doing a tune up one day my cousin leans in, checks out the motor and says "You know.. I think that's the same engine that's in the old Mazda, engine's blown but I wonder if the trans'll fit"
Now I did a little looking as if by some divine providence the transmission in his 05 Mazda 3 (FS5A-EL) is essentially the same as Fords 5-Speed version (FNR5) of what's in Frank. So I'm thinkin' "Can I just swap it?" I feel like I'm gonna have to fabricate some stuff to get the gear shift sitting right but, I dunno, what do you guys think? Anyone heard of someone doing this kind of thing? Any words of wisdom from someone who's done something similar with Fords FNR5 maybe?
TLDR: Swap my dying Ford 4F27E auto transmission for a Mazda FS5A-EL 5 speed manual? Yea or nay?
