With Car Wizard and almost every main YouTuber jumping on the “don’t buy any F150 with the 5.4L Triton” bandwagon, do ya’ll think that this engine gets too much unwarranted hate? Especially when the recommended alternative is usually a truck where the transmission is guaranteed to go out at or before 200k (Chevy 1500).
My and my family’s own personal experience with the 5.4 is that my grandfather, my dad, myself, and my cousin all have owned the 5.4L all being the 04-08 model type, with zero problems. My guess is that it’s the drivers who never do oil changes properly or beat the everloving mess out of their trucks.
Mine currently has 290k miles and has only ever once had the check engine light come on after blowing a leak in the radiator from driving across state lines at 90MPH for an hour due to an emergency where it overheated at 250k and still didn’t blow. I’ve replaced the break pads and I do regular oil changes every 3k miles. Gramp’s has 210k, cousin’s has 190k, and my dad’s had 225k before he sold it, with the exception being that his was the 97-03 model.
