Saw the post about the insurance surcharge and remembered THIS one I just saw in Palm Springs.
Excuse me? 3% just because we feel like it?
Ace Hotel for anyone interested. Not sure do they add this at ALL their properties?

Yes, I worked at restaurants that did this. Customers would always flip when they saw it on the receipt.

Simply because cashless establishments are more profitable and efficient (people spend more/tip more using plastic vs. using cash). That's why more and more companies are going cashless. Also lots of companies are passing on the fees to consumers to stay in business so you'll see a lot of these fees come from smaller businesses.
