So I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place for this but I have no idea what is going on and couldn't find a better sub for this.
For the better part of this last week, I have been having some pretty bad gastro issues. Pretty much any time I have eaten wasabi, my insides basically turn into a juicer.
I just started getting into sushi and last Saturday had a few different rolls, all with wasabi. Shortly after, I was basically peeing out my butt. I had assumed it was bad sushi or my body reacting to raw fish for the first time. I ate it with the wasabi that came with it and also had purchased some wasabi that I later found out was a horseradish/wasabi mix but didn't use it that night. I assume the wasabi with the sushi was a more pure product than what I bought at the store as the consistency was totally different but really, I have no idea.
So all this week, the issue continued. The strange thing is that I didn't feel sick in any other way. My stomach hasn't even been hurting, it's just when I have to go I have to go right then and it's not pleasant. It wasn't until today that I made the wasabi connection. I have been putting the store bought wasabi mix on my sandwiches for lunch. I didn't have a sandwich Wednesday or Thursday and had no issues. So today I tested it out with the wasabi on a sandwich again, just a tiny amount and within 30 minutes I was on the toilet with liquid shits.
Now I love horseradish and though I don't eat it frequently, I have never had an issue so I can only assume it is the wasabi doing it. I can't find any information online other than "spicy foods can cause stomach upset" but I have no issues with other spicy foods either. Could this be an allergy? Does my body just not like wasabi? Has anyone else ever encountered this? I'm so confused!
