Last year, I got my first skin prick test for allergies. While I showed up positive for virtually every pollinating thing in existence, I had no reaction to major foods. I was however tested, and was positive for yeast.
This year, I had to get tested again for new vials at my new allergist's office, as the old one retired. I was once again tested for the top 7 of the 8. (Corn, Egg, Milk, Peanut, Sesame Seed, Soybean, Wheat)
Tested positive to each one! I eat almost all of these on a regular basis with the exception of sesame seeds and peanuts. And I eat those with enough infrequency, I would imagine that I would notice a reaction if I had one. Peanuts, for example I can go months without seeing a peanut, eat peanut butter, or peanuts in food and have no issues. Sesame same thing. What's weird is that each wheel was exactly the same at 4mm. The yeast one (I'd say this is confirmed allergy now!) was a 5mm wheel.
Is there a high incidence of false positives with food? The nurse who did my shots didn't seem very concerned. She merely suggested I do an elimination diet and either all at once, or one food at a time, and reintroduce to see how I feel.
Aside from yeast, I do not get reactions generally after eating food. I do however have chronic asthma that seems to get better or worse depending on the time of year. It does not appear to coincide with food...
ETA: I also get heart burn on the regular... Since it improves when I reduce yeast and sugars, I've attributed it to this since learning of my yeast allergy last year.
