Dumb question here.
Back in April I had allergy testing done. I showed a strong reaction to the skin prick test. It apparently welted and had a good deal of redness. It did not itch or feel hot whatsoever though, like the grasses pricks did. Those started itching IMMEDIATLY and the welts took a few days to heal. They even wiped the serum off early! No such story with the yeast. Anyhoo- the allergist informed me I had a strong reaction and should avoid things such as bread, muffins(his words), beer, etc.
Now- from what I gather about food allergies in general, if you have a food allergy the reaction is usually severe and immediate. Hives, itchy watery eyes, stomach cramps, vomiting, asthma attack, etc. I have never had a reaction of any kind immediately following food.
But, I followed his advice and eliminated yeast containing foods with the exception of things containing distilled vinegar. I noticed my stomach was no longer poochy. It has been kind of distended for as long as I can remember. Not hard and bloated. Just soft and round. Kind of looks like I'm preggo. After my elimination trial I figured out when I eat a yeast containing food, especially bread, my stomach immediately gets big. It's not hard though. I just look fat in the stomach area. And days later, I get just weird symptoms like my bladder hurts when it's full, but it isn't a UTI. (I had this checked out). Maybe, hours later I'll get a couple of mild cramps in my stomach. Sometimes I get heart burn. Now, what I know about food allergies is,that these symptoms are indicative of an intolerance. But, reading what little info I could find about yeast allergy- this is how it typically presents.
So those with a yeast allergy- do you find this to be true? Or did I have a false positive? I had a nurse argue with me at an unrelated doctors appointment. I told her I was diagnosed with a yeast allergy- and she told me it was actually an intolerance and put in my records as such. My allergist however agrees my symptoms are normal for a yeast allergy. Color me confused.
TL/DR: Is my yeast allergy diagnoses a false positive, or does a yeast allergy normally present as an intolerance?
