Newly diagnosed (sorta), my PCP knows I have the allergy because I "messed around and found out" but didn't refer me to an allergist because I'm in college in another state during the fall and spring. But, I have a question about anaphylaxis.
For some background first, I had a sports drink (Prime) that had coconut water in it, not knowing I was allergic to coconut. A couple months prior, I had another sports drink (BodyArmor) with coconut water in it, and it gave me severe heartburn and it triggered a severe gerd episode that lasted about three hours on and off. But, back to the Prime situation.
When I had the Prime sports drink, I would take a sip, my throat would tighten up ever so slightly, and then once the drink went down all the way, the swelling went down. Is this a form of anaphylaxis? And should I talk to my PCP about getting an epipen, just in case? I've been avoiding coconut like the plague ever since (which sucks because i bought a lot of nice soaps before i developed the allergy, and they all have cocout oil/product in them).
