Hello friends.
So I have recently been propositioned with a shit load of OT coming in the next couple months which means I get to save quite a bit for the ST (don't get me wrong, not super excited about all work and no play) and I'm trying to plan for possibly going big turbo in the near future. I have a few questions though for anyone out there with experience in this arena.
First and foremost my current build. I am currently running a '14 ST1 with drop in air filter, CPE delta core exhale kit and Tial bov.
I want to know if I'm missing anything and to get opinions on my plan.
I am looking pretty hard at getting the GTX2971R @.86AR. I feel like the top end range vs spool time is a good trade off. I just wanted to know if there are any supporting mods I'm going to NEED to run this effectively. Is aux fuel required or can I run a big turbo off oem LPFP and injectors as long as I stay under 370hp? If I do need aux fuel will the stratified 2-port xtra fuel system work with my CPE exhale kit (more worried about the difference in location of the throttle body and coupler and if there is cutting needed). My understanding of aux fuel is to increase flow as to avoid going lean and popping my engine at higher load due to the LPFP / injectors failing from flow limitations. If correct, can I run the highest octane pump gas I can find (92 around here) on a bigger turbo and maintain safety under the correct tune or is an e85 mix best even for DD?
My goal for the build is to maintain driveability and reliability and to also have a rocket ship when I want it. This car is and will be my daily driver. I'm not necessarily chasing any numbers or anything tangible like that. I am more or less looking for a feeling really. I love the way the car drives aside from the torque steer and shitty roads in WA. I would like to track the car in the future both drag and road course but that isn't for a while until I can save enough to fix what ever I may break on the track. I am really looking for the feeling I got when I first installed the Cobb AP, then again when I flashed over the stratified tune. That "holy shit!" moment where there is just an incredibly noticeable difference from one step to the next.
When I first test drove the focus I felt like it was nice, had power where I wanted it and it moved. I got the AP and it was just like "oh wow, this thing really moves now and I feel like it might be a bit much". Then I installed the Stratified tune and that was the first time I said "holy crap, I better be careful" and I am now chasing that "better be careful" feeling as I get used to the current tune and feel more comfortable with it.
Thank you in advance for any input on this and I look forward to any stories, advice and words of warning in general. I feel like it's important to have a plan when spending money on any kind of build and being armed with information is key.
P.S. After typing this out I think I might have an addiction.
