I played flute in middle school band (in the 90s) and being a stupid teenager with undiagnosed adhd I gave it up.
I’ve regretted it for quite sometime because I had so much potential. I was first chair, I learned everything so quickly that my band teacher would bring in an extra tutor once a week to teach me more advanced techniques and music during class time and I was happy. It was like summer break erased my memory of how much fun I had in class.
Anyway I’ve always loved music and have a collection of instruments I can only sort of play lol. Recently, I added an old flute to my collection. It’s funny the things you remember after 25 years lol. All of it mostly muscle memory of course. Instinctively my body went into correct posture, finger placement was perfect, and when I placed the flute up to my mouth I could feel it all coming back to me lol.
I have two toddlers so I have very limited free time and as I was attempting to practice they wanted to also play restaurant. So I basically managed 10 minutes worth of Mary had a Little Lamb 😂.
So I guess I should work on reading sheet music again. That part definitely isn’t coming back so easily.
