A couple people asked me if I felt we were in worse shape from a recruiting perspective after Saturday night, given how many visitors we had. I am not an expert by any means and I welcome the thoughts of others, but I don't think there's any cause for concern.
I believe, and have seen data supporting this, that on field results have a minimal impact on recruiting. Especially true here cause it’s one game.
These kids are making their decision based on (A) NIL, (B) playing time, and (C) how they feel they’ll be developed and their ultimate shot at playing on Sundays. Season/on field has nothing to do with 1. I think Napier has shown 2 is a win for us—look at him feeding Etienne because the kid is earning it. For 3, I’m not overly worried. Napier has had AR for a very short amount of time. Kid had a bad game. The only concern I have is if we see some major regression, the coaches look clueless, or it becomes clear we can't call a decent game. I don't think any of that is true. And our D and Oline both look much improved from last year.
I’m not worried about recruiting at all unless we have a total disaster of a season. We are absolutely nowhere near that yet.
Rightly or wrongly, I think about it like this: Napier is not telling croots “come here and be part of a national championship dynasty.” That’s what Saban sells. Napier is saying “come here and be part of rebuilding this program and, if you earn it, you will have every single opportunity to show out on film.” Reporting has suggested the kids committing to Napier are in it for the rebuild and he is upfront with them about it. And, if I'm a recruit, I have seen nothing so far that makes me doubt that sales pitch and I absolutely believe I will earn it.
Will post anything of interest I see and happy to be corrected, but I think the sky is falling narrative as to this season is silly and as to recruiting is even sillier. Go Gators!
GDE.
