Hey, all. Things are still fairly quiet but there are some minor updates as we get ready for a week with hopefully some news and, most importantly, gear up for the 1/14 weekend where we're hosting a ton of guys.
Jacob Cowing
I wrote earlier about our offer to transfer WR Jacob Cowing. Cowing is set to announce tomorrow. His final 5 are UF, Arizona, LSU, Oregon, and USC. But, as has been pointed out, he has a kid in AZ so I am not feeling great about this one. That's fine, we have other guys on the board, but something to look out for.
Kamari Wilson Doing Work
There have been a few articles out lately about how hard 5* Kamari Wilson out of IMG is working to help build this class. Per Blake Alderman, Wilson is continuing that effort in Orlando during the Under Armour game, where he is probably in the ear of a lot of the guys we want. Per Wilson:
"I am the best recruiter ever. I am trying to get Shemar Stewart, we can't speak on some of the other guys because they are silently committed. Just know, the Florida Gators are going to get some more dogs. Me and Jacoby [Mathews] have a great relationship and I am definitely going to get him at Florida, so you might as well Crystal Ball him right now because he is going to be here."
This gives me a lot of hope regarding Matthews and some hope on Shemar, though the latter is currently predicted to Miami, TAMU or UGA. I also like his comment on some silent comments. Based on everything I've seen, I strongly believe one of those is Etienne! I'm wondering if Tre'vonte Citizen is another. Either way, we did not lose any enthusiasm with Evers decommiting (Evers used to serve this cheerleader role for the class). So let's see if Wilson can deliver.
UPDATE [9:35 PM]: Harold Perkins
I wrote about Perkins (link includes more info on him). As expected, he committed today (which was his pre-planned day) to TAMU. However, he still plans to visit us. As you can see from the discussion with Rkovo84, below, who was helpful in flagging, he seems a long shot to land. But nothing that happened today really moves the needle for me. I'm mostly hoping he has a great visit and talks up the program to his friends in TX. Even if TAMU is surging recruiting-wise, we should be able to pull TX kids, especially with this staffs Louisiana roots and Texas connections. Worth keeping an eye on when/if he comes to visit. Not expecting a flip here but even getting him on campus can only help us.
