We are officially onto to coaching staff. Today we are going to vote on the unsung heros of the gator standard. The Defensive coordinators. The coaches were hard to evaluate so i went with overall stats like bumber one defense/offense or scoring defens/rushing offense. There are a ton of ststs that discuss different aspects of an entire team that i believe are indicative of the quality of team. We do need to keep in mind that the number 1 defense in 2008 was probably better than our number 1 defense in mushcamps 2nd season. So with that being said, i tried to go off of rankings and overall stats for the coordinator positions. The head coach is another animal and will be thenfinal poll.
Next week we will do the OC and the HC votes. I will need a little time for tabulation and then i will post the final results of the team. I ask for your patience as this is a labor of love and not my full time job.
As these polls go on, I recognize that some players will be left out. That is going to be apparent with some positions like middle linebacker, wide reciever, and corner back. With a history of great players in these positions, statistics can only bring us so far. There is the subjectiveness of awards they recieve and of nominations for awards. Because of this awards are the last thing considered when ranking the top 6 statistical players of all time at any given position.
Additionally, we must all acknowledge that the game has changed and the responsibilities of positions have changed with it. I tried to include that into my analysis.
Furthermore, some of you asked about coaches and schemes. The coaches will be the last thing we vote on. I understand that some people might take issue with that, but hear me out. We aren't picking a team that is going to play a game. We are picking a team to represent the best individual players. The same goes for the coaches. Carlos Alveraze may have never been recruited by Urban Meyer, that sort of subjectivity is a discussion all its own.
** Mondays winner was Percy Harvin. And it wasnt even close. Hats off to Kadarius Toney, We Chandler, and Trey Burton for at least getting a vote. Your official x-factorplayer is: Percy Harvin**
I enjoy the discussion going on in the comments. There has been virtually no toxicity and everyone appears to be having a good time
Now without further delay, here are the six statistically best UF defensive coordinators of all time:
