Thoughts on Brennan Marion’s Go Go Offense

Post Body

Before I start with what I think about Marion’s offense potentially being implemented for Florida if CBN would hire him, I do want to preface that I haven’t paid attention to UNLV much all season and most of the information I’m gonna talk about comes from their bowl game vs Kansas.

Things I liked:

-RPO With a weaker o-line like ours, this could amplify the strength of this offense with our run game and Mertz’s ability to throw short accurate passes

-Rollout play action Once again, with issues at the offensive line getting our QB away from trouble by design allows for potentially more time to make big plays with either his arm/legs

-2 minute offense Offense was fast and very aggressive, definitely a polar opposite of what we are used to under CBN.

-high tempo and wants to put the D on its heels and allows for big play potential which lacked last season

-finds ways to get the best playmakers the ball often

Things I didn’t like:

-repetitive calls Now this could be due to UNLV getting down big and early, but play calling became one note at times. Lots of roll out pass or quick passes but this could have been due to circumstance

-off tackle runs Seems to love to call these, and with our biggest weakness being the OT, this could be an issue for our RBs to have success. This could still be a positive if the oline gets fixed but I worry about it with the current talent at the line.

Overall, I really like what Marion is doing with his schemes. If applied early enough and ran well, our offense could take a huge leap forward on what I considered already a good offense. We would get back to being deadly with our speed and run track meets against defenses, which would be much needed change from our snail paced offense from last season. I think a bunch of our issues from last season on offense would be solved if he would be the hire. But tell me what yall think; or something I may have missed, like I said I haven’t watched UNLV and even though they lost tonight’s game I liked what I saw.
