Mannequins vs. flat lay for clothing photography

I was goofing around on youtube today and found a lot of tutorials on flat-lay photography for clothing. I am SO HAPPY. I spent far too much time fussing around with clothing on a mannequin getting it to drape correctly and look good.

Apparently, though, flat lay is a thing now. For the hell of it, I added a flat-lay photo as my main picture on a bunch of my listings.

As an example, here's a photo of a coat taken flat lay and one on a mannequin (the popular thing seems to be to add some props, which I did).

And sorry for the poor quality image of the coat on the mannequin. It looks better on eBay than here, for some reason.
