I don't know how it escaped my notice, but a GWO apparently opened last fall in a town not far from me. Even better, there's this information:
The new outlet store will be open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday for licensed resellers only by appointment and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday to others.
It sounds like I wouldn't have to deal with all the pushy assholes who are known to frequent the bins. (I have a reseller's license). Plus, the website says children under age 16 aren't allowed.
SOMEONE PLEASE PINCH ME AND MAKE SURE I'M NOT DREAMING
Edit [a few days later]: As promised, here's my experience and some photos. I went yesterday (Friday). I got there at 10:30 a.m., although I had hoped to get there right when they opened at 9 a.m. But I had some orders to fill and other stuff to deal with, so I got a late start. Turned out not to be a problem, though. Random comments:
- It was clean, bright, and well-organized (and a bit chilly, as someone else pointed out in this thread). In one of the photos, you'll see a box labeled with aluminum and copper. All the items were very well sorted; this is just an example. The other bin stores I've been to generally tossed a bunch of unrelated stuff in a bin.
- Hardly anyone was there, and that remained true for the 2.5 hours I was there.
- Also as pointed out in this thread, they are strict about the no-kids rule. Two women came in, one with a babe in arms. An employee politely told her she couldn't remain in the main area. The woman left and waited in a front area where they had a table and some vending machines. I heard the employee tell the woman it was a safety issue, which I suppose would be true, especially for a baby.
I'd give it a 9 out of 10. My only complaint is that the shoes and clothing were in gaylords, which made it impossible to reach in all the way (see photos; the boxes were about shoulder height on me, and I'm 5'6"). Short of tossing things on the floor as I went through them and putting them back as I moved along to the next box, I can't think of a way to solve that issue. Something tells me, though, that idea wouldn't fly with the employees. There'd be a mountain of clothing on the floor!
(For the photos, I'm using imgur, which is new to me. If this doesn't work, I'll fix it.)
