Thinking about starting fec

Hello everyone I been think of starting a few and I thought it be s good time with the new book and model but I know fec is a horde army but I like a bit more elite army's with some model to use as meatshield so do you think there be away in the new book for this play style or do you I still need 100 billion crypt ghastly to make a playable army
