Creatine Cycles - Such a thing

I used to take creatine last year (tablet form) bout an hr before my workout, and it seemed to work just fine. But recently bought some creatine in powdered form, and have heard about cycling. So loading for X days, then off it for Y. Could someone either link me or explain how this works? Does it depend on the creatine itself?
