So, on 5/3/1 you add weight every cycle which is after every 3rd week or 4th if you take a deload. But you have an amrap set for the last set of every week so potentially you can increase your one rep max. The app that I am using tells you how many reps you should aim for to increase your 1RM. So, for example a typical 3 weeks would look like this:
Week 1 @ 85% 45kg x 18 reps โ estimated 1RM of 72kg
Week 2 @ 90% 50kg x 14 reps โ estimated 1RM 73kg
Week 3 @ 95% 52.5kg x 12 reps โ estimated 1RM 74kg
So, if you manage the above you have actually increased your theoretical 1RM before you have even added the prescribed weight at the end of the cycle. My question is if you do not hit these rep numbers does it indicate that the program is not working or maybe youโre not eating / sleeping enough? Does it even matter if you donโt hit the target reps for instance you may get 18 reps, 13, 11 which would give you the same theoretical 1RM of 72kg.
I'm probably over thinking things as usual :)
