My max is ~285 lbs. I go for 5x5 245 lbs. A while ago I went lighter(125 lbs) than usual to try out the different forms and tips I have heard. I tried pushing on my heels, pulling with the back , normal form etc. I couldn't feel the hams/glutes being worked as much as my lower back.
I then went with 225 lbs for some reps and tried out Mikhail Koklyaev's form. I felt my glutes and hams but only for a short time, only at the start of the lift. Same thing when going close to my max, 275 and I only felt it for a while. I guess his form was similar to the tip I got from my classmate who's a powerlifter "Imagine as if you're pushing the earth down."
I guess I'll stick with his form for a while until I properly fix my deadlift. I will definitely post a formcheck video this week to hopefully end my problems.
EDIT: I am a very small man. 5'6, not sure if this data helps though.
