What's the difference in health benefits between doing, say, 100 push-ups in day vs. doing 10 sets of 10 push-ups spread throughout the day?

As a newbie to push-ups I find I can't do much in one 'sitting' but after a bit of a break I can come back and keep going. So it got me thinking, what is the difference in a work-out that is spread throughout a day, rather than all in one session?
Edit: Just to be clear I'm not saying this is the extent of training or actual numbers - I'm just asking hypothetically, in terms of what's happening in your body, what's the difference between the two?
