New to fishing, where should I start ?

I hope this is allowed here, I've been interested in fishing and I want to get into it. I've watched a few videos so I somewhat am starting to understand but they typically said "6.5-7.5 feet, medium something something" and mentioned other equipment so generally they never mentioned specific brands or rods so I dont know what's "good" or what's "bad". Should I just start off with local marketplaces ? or should I buy brand new stuff at walmart ? or if possible can someone give me specific items for under the 100 dollar range since apparently that's possible ?
